Redefining Careerism

According to the all-knowing wikipedia, "careerism" is defined as: "the overwhelming desire or urge to advance one's own career or social status, usually at the expense of other personal interests or social growth."

With the term "Creative Careerism," I want to turn that definition on it's head. Creative Careerism is about an overwhelming desire and urge - to do work that is truly fulfilling. It is about advancing our careers by pursuing that which we are most passionate about, very much to the benefit of our personal interests and social growth. It's about creating ways to be really successful and, indeed, make money doing things that we love, feel good about, and that do good for others and the world around us.

For many of us - ENFP's, Scanners, Cultural Creatives - whatever title you want to put on us - the idea of being strapped down to an office chair from 9-5, 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year (because you can damn well bet that if we end up in one of these sorts of jobs we're going to take every second of vacation we can get) is about the most miserable thing we can imagine - even if we are making good money.

We are people seeking new ways to work - ways to do creative work, have flexible schedules, pursue many interests and create multiple streams of income. We are freelancers, entrepreneurs, consultants, coaches, healers... sometimes all at once.

This blog is dedicated to those who are pursuing a different path. I intend to share my experiences, ideas, and resources as well as those provided by others who are pursuing a new, more fulfilling, and ultimately more successful way of working and living in the world. I know it won't always be easy, but I do expect it will be a grand adventure.
